Friends Only.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, this journal is now Friends Only. This makes me somewhat sad, as I have "met" a lot of really great people here on Livejournal by being excerpted on metaquotes and by folks finding their way here through various other means.

I can't afford to be dooced, though, so take that as you will. If you'd like to read my protected entries, leave a comment and let me know! I'm still interested in reading and being read, and probably always will be.

You can still be MQ'd, people just have to ask permission now.

Oh, that's cool... I have just made some great LJ friends that way. I can always unlock a particular (innocuous) post based on circumstance... I just do not have the time or patience to go back through all my entries to see what should and should not probably be locked. :/

*nodnod* It's better this way for you - that's why my LJ is all friends-locked. You don't have to have the post unlocked for MQ, either. ;)

You need a better job! Or maybe to be less paranoid :-)

In my experience, the more honest and upfront I am about myself, the more people trust me. And if there is someone who does like me for what I say and do, then it's better that they know about it right away, then to find out down the road when we've already invested time and energy in a relationship (personal or business).

But until you find a way to work with people who think you are cool even when they know your faults, I suppose keeping your ideas private works.

I meant, DOESN'T like me for what I say and do...

It's not paranoia. This is a small area, and everyone has links to just about everyone else... the trainer for my district found me on MySpace. I kept my profile unsearchable, but I happened to be friends there with someone she knows--basically, we have friends in common and never realised. On my profile was a link here, and while I do not use the name of my employer or even the first names of my boss or coworkers, it wouldn't be difficult for her to figure out. I want to retain the freedom to speak frankly here about my working life and not have repercussions to face there.

That, and while I feel my outside personal life should not have any bearing on my working life, my company might disagree in some circumstances. It is easier to just lock it all than have to go back and sift through everything public for things I might not want my bosses to know.

It's too bad you feel that way. It's so much easier when you caan just be yourself and work with people who accept you for who you are, rather than some fantasy person.

I wish you luck in finding a more healthy place to work in the future, and I'm sure you'll find it since I know you're very talented and creative and compassionate. :-)

As a teacher who can be fired for doing or saying any number of things that are totally legal, I completely understand.

Add me? ;)

You're keeping me on your friends list aren't you? I know I'm awful at commenting, but I really enjoy your posts.

Do you leave any identifying information in your blogs? Can someone enter identifying search terms and find your blog? (Small companies you've worked? E-mail addresses? Phone number?)

As for those who claim that they have nothing to hide, people are shallow judgemental creatures that esaily make conclusions about others based off of very little information. (Me? I just condemn the whole species in general.) What might be acceptable to you might send someone else into a "this person is dangerous and should be policed" frenzy.

Only one path could be followed here to my Livejournal from anywhere outside of it that involves personal information--there was a link from my MySpace profile. The only use I basically have for MySpace is to keep in touch with certain itinerant friends of mine, and I posted a link to my blog in the (largely futile) hopes that I could get them to just read me here instead. I have since deleted said link, but not before, as noted in my comments above, the district trainer from work found me on one of her friends' profiles. I don't know that she followed the link over here, but I'm erring on the side of caution. After all, -I- would have nosed around over here if the situation had been reversed.

It's sad that you've had to lock your journal down. I was hoping to re-read your parking lot on fire entry again -- I was wondering if you would see your way clear to include a copy of the whole entry in the comments to the metaquotes entry.
